First it was Humble Chicken and now there’s another new yakitori joint coming to Central London. Junsei, opening in Marylebone this July, will serve a menu of over 20 types of yakitori cooked over Japanese Binchōtan charcoal, with chicken options including shiso breast with ume, heart, tsukune, neck, heart, and crispy skin; and veggie skewers like shiitake mushrooms, soy marinated quail eggs, and fried tofu.
They sit alongside sharing plates like cuttlefish somen with cucumber mirin soy sauce, A4 wagyu seared at the table, red mullet clay pot rice, and desserts like smoked birch creme brulee and strawberry mochi. If that sounds like way too much choice, Junsei has an omakase menu option, where the chef picks eight skewers and a selection of sides for you – and if you nab one of the seats at the chef’s table with the view of the open grill, you’ll be able to see all the action too.
As well as sake and shochu, you’ll be able to sip on Japanese-inspired cocktails like the Gin2, with hot lemon gin foam and cold orange & lemon gin granita, and the Whiskey Highball with English plum syrup. If that sounds right up your alley, you can get into Junsei first and get 50% OFF food during their soft launch running from 22nd – 30th June. Stick that in your diary…
