The show is based on the international best-selling book and Netflix film
The uplifting new musical, now playing @sohoplace theatre for a limited run until 18th July, tells the extraordinary true story of William Kamkwamba, a 13-year-old boy in drought-stricken Malawi who dreams of saving his village. Nobody believes he can but as crops fail and hope runs dry, William finds inspiration in scraps of old machinery and a handful of library books, and begins to build a windmill to harness the power of the wind. It’s a celebration of human ingenuity and the power of hope.
The musical, adapted from William Kamkwamba’s book and Chiwetel Ejiofor’s 2019 film (Ejiofor is an Executive Producer on the show), is premiering in the West End after transferring from Stratford-upon-Avon. Lynette Linton (Shifters, Sweat, Intimate Apparel, Blues for an Alabama Sky) is directing the production with book and lyrics by Richy Hughes (Superhero) and music and lyrics by Tim Sutton (Restless Natives, RSC’s The Merry Wives of Windsor).
