It’s what music lovers have been waiting for all summer long – yes festival season is finally upon us and it is glorious. Meltdown Festival is one of the longest-running fests in the London calendar and has been curated by the likes of Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Nile Rodgers and Grace Jones. For 2023, Christine and the Queens is taking the reins and what a line-up he’s put together, with the likes of Django Django, Yemi Alade, Warpaint, KOKOROKO, Sigur Ros with the London Contemporary Orchestra, Bat For Lashes, Lynks, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Petite Noir, and Let’s Eat Grandma all performing at the Southbank Centre, with two closing shows from Chris himself.
There’s also a free programme running throughout the festival too, including DJ sets from dub collective Faggamuffin Bloc Party, a summer jam from Rain Crew, cabaret from Sisu and Pecs Drag Kings, and an immersive multi-sensory performance from BitterSuite called Bodies Tilted.
