Fancy yourself a bit of a wine connoisseur? Got a nice little vino stash in your kitchen? Maybe you even have a dedicated wine fridge? Then you’ve probably heard of Decanter and the Decanter World Wine Awards (and if you haven’t, we’re about to fill you in). Running for 20 years, DWWA is the world’s largest and most influential wine competition, so if bottles score big here it truly is a mark of exceptional quality. This year’s competition featured a record 18,250 wines from 57 countries, and they were scored by a 236-strong judging team that included 16 Master Sommeliers and 53 Masters of Wine. Out of all those wines, only 125 were awarded Platinum medals (meaning they scored over 97 points) making these wines the best of the best.
We’ve teamed up with Decanter to give away a case of three wines – a red, a fortified white and a champagne – from the Platinum winners worth over £150. There’s a 2018 Attunga 1865 Shiraz from Kilikanoon in South Australia’s Clare Valley, a classic of the style with notes of red and black berries, plum and spicy vanilla; an intense, perfumed and buttery 2010 Moscatel Roxo de Setúbal from Casa Ermelinda Freitas in Portugal; and plush, complex and citrus-rich 2008 Ekleipsis Grand Cru Brut from Regi in France’s Champagne region.
