wild food cafe plan new site in islington

Joel and Aiste Gazdar, the couple behind Covent Garden’s Wild Food Cafe are opening a new restaurant on Upper Street at the beginning of December. The original is one of London’s best vegan restaurants, but it always suffered from a lack of space, so it’s good news that the new Islington site is a lot bigger, allowing for an expanded menu AND reservations. It’s taking over the space that was occupied by 100 Islington which has sadly now closed.

The fully plant-based menus will follow a traditional three course format. Starters will include ‘Pulled Jackfruit Sandwich Bites’ – raw walnut and courgette bread, little gem, black garlic cashew cheese, BBQ pulled jack fruit; ‘scallops of king oyster’ – oyster mushrooms, herb & garlic dip, wild sea purslane; and ‘Wabi-Sabi Kale Salad’ – grilled  squash, sunflower seed sour cream, probiotic kimchi, chestnuts, avocado, wakame.

For the mains, there’ll be ‘Living Laksa’, a vegan version of the national Malaysian dish, which combines  coconut broth with galangal, lemongrass, ginger, nori, squash and ‘Queen of the Forest’, a coconut-seared plantain stew with romanesco, black rice, amaranth, cacao nibs, and brazil nuts.
