They say everything is bigger in America and that’s the attitude here, with the restaurants serving up a gargantuan portion of slow-roasted Norfolk Bronze turkey cooked in herb butter with cornbread & sausage stuffing, maple-buttered sweet potatoes, truffled mac & cheese, creamed corn casserole, glazed sprouts & bacon, green beans & praline with Calvados gravy and a cranberry & confit orange relish on the side. Corr, these lot are putting Aunt Bessie to shame.

Joe Allen is invoking the spirit of the Big Apple for Thanksgiving this year with a menu that includes carrot & cumin chowder, celery, corn, black beans; grilled pork belly, pickled red cabbage, XO shrimp crumb; butter roasted hake, charred leek, peppercorn sauce; roast turkey or honey roast smoked ham with roast potatoes, collard greens, carrots and cranberry sauce; and a New York strip steak with Béarnaise and watercress. For dessert, of course, there’s a baked coffee cheesecake with coffee anglaise and espresso syrup; a salted caramel & chocolate tart with hazelnuts and crème fraiche; and the mandatory pumpkin pie with vanilla ice cream.

Sussex
If you know the Gladwin Brothers, you’ll know they own a collection restaurants around London, including The Shed in Notting Hill, Rabbit in Chelsea, Nutbourne in Battersea, The Black Lamb in Wimbledon and Sussex in Soho, each of them bringing a bit of the British countryside to the smog-laden streets of London. This time, they’ll be bringing an XL helping of America to Sussex, with a Thanksgiving menu featuring crab and corn chowder served with homemade cornbread and a Yorkshire turkey parmo accompanied by black autumn truffle mac’n’cheese, a selection of garden vegetables and a generous serving of gravy. Dessert will be a seasonal twist on the classic creme brulee, a caramelised pumpkin Cambridge cream. Bosh.

Duck & Waffle
Enjoy a Thanksgiving feast with some epic views over London by heading to Duck & Waffle. Sette is the London sister to NYC’s Scarpetta and as Thanksgiving is big for them across the pond, they’re hoping to recreate some of that magic here in the capital. It’s Thanksgiving Bayou-style at Jacob Kenedy’s Plaquemine Lock in Islington. The menu features the likes of blackened turkey with sausage, red beans and rice; tender scallops served on sweet pumpkin and ginger bread; roast turkey po’boy stuffed with slices of turkey and homemade cranberry sauce; and their signature pumpkin pie with whipped cream for dinner. There’ll also be some Louisiana-inspired cocktails and live music from blues duo Dirty Blues completing the experience.

Galvin Bar & Grill, the restaurant inside the Kimpton Fitzroy, is putting out an exclusive menu for the big day which showcases the best of British ingredients with an American twist. The four-course menu kicks off with Dorset crab & pumpkin cake with spring onion, Oscietra caviar and crème fraîche before moving on to the middle course of wild mushrooms, green beans, quail eggs and truffle. The main course will be a southern-style fried blonde breed turkey cooked with apricot and served with popovers, sweet potato mash and creole spiced sprouts. Then, for dessert, there’ll be pecan pie with bourbon cream.

Wild Turkey Pop-Up at Straker’s
The freshly opened Straker’s, brought to you by TikTok chef Thomas Straker, is hosting the Wild Turkey whiskey crew for a one-night-only pop-up. On Thanksgiving, Straker’s will turn into The Wild Turkey Diner which will be serving up dishes inspired by Kentucky classics. Expect the likes of fried turkey schnitzel, grilled langoustine with a whiskey bisque and chocolate mousse with a Wild Turkey caramel sauce. Of course, there’ll be Wild Turkey drinks too; choose between an old fashioned, a buck and a gold rush – or just drink it straight.

Chef Sally Abé is putting together a special Thanksgiving menu at The Pem, the fine-dining joint that sits inside bougie Westminster hotel the Conrad London St James. The Stafford London has a strong American connection – the hotel’s American Bar is one of the longest surviving ones of its kind in the capital and is filled with memorabilia often donated by American guests – so they always put on a big Thanksgiving spread.
