VOLTA DO MAR TO OPEN IN COVENT GARDEN

Simon Mullins (former co-founder of the Salt Yard Group) is teaming up with his wife Isabel Almeida Da Silva to open Portuguese restaurant Volta do Mar, taking over a double fronted Georgian townhouse in Covent Garden. The restaurant will showcase regional Portuguese food as well as dishes from places like Angola, Goa, Brazil, Macau and Mozambique (if you know your history, you’ll know that these are former Portuguese colonies).

Head chef George Tannock (formerly of The Fat Duck, Zuma and The Dorchester, and also born and raised in Portugal) will be cooking up dishes like smoked ham hock feijoada, Iberico pork vindalho, Macanese arroz marisco served tableside, and pão com chouriço, Goan chorizo served in a naan. The classic pastel de nata will be available in the mornings alongside Portuguese doughnuts, fresh bread and coffee.

The drinks list sticks to the same theme, with Portuguese wines, madeira and port on offer, and spirits from the likes of Cape Verde, Angola and Mozambique featuring in the cocktails.

Hanging out in Covent Garden? These are the spots we love.
