VIOLET TO OPEN NEW BAKERY AND WINE BAR

Claire Ptak, owner of Violet and baker of Harry and Meghan’s wedding cake, is opening a second site in Hackney early next year. The new two-floor space, which doesn’t yet have an official name (though it’s currently being referred to as Violet Corner), is taking over the spot where The Corner used to be on Mare Street, meaning it’s just down the road from the existing bakery and it’s next door to LOTI HQ, which is very, very dangerous.

As well as moving most of the cake production over, Ptak will also be running the new site as a cafe and wine bar, meaning that as well as cakes and pastries, you’ll be able to get quiches, toasties and salads at lunch. Aperitivo hour will run from 5pm with a large natural wine offering and cocktails including the Aviation, made with gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette and lemon juice. We’ve still got a while to wait until this opens but you can be sure we’ll be keeping a close eye on this, especially as we’re neighbours.

Hanging out in Hackney? Here are the spots we love.
