UP YOUR TRAIN PICNIC GAME WITH SONS + DAUGHTERS

Like a lot of Londoners, a couple of the LOTI team will be heading to King’s Cross St Pancras in a few weeks to get trains back home for Christmas. Whilst it is perfectly acceptable to grab a last minute Pret sandwich when sprinting for your overcrowded train, may we suggest travelling like a pro and making time to pick up an absolutely banging train picnic from Sons + Daughters in Coal Drops Yard

A few weeks ago we had the brainwave of pre-ordering our sandwiches when we had a train up to York one morning and we’re not gonna lie, we were pretty pleased with ourselves. If you haven’t heard about Sons + Daughters yet, it’s the new sandwich shop from Pidgin duo James Ramsden and Sam Herlihy and it’s an absolute winner.

Having ordered ahead we popped in 15 mins before our train to pick up our big paper bags, which were ready and waiting stuffed full of sandwiches and mince pies. Our favourite has to be the Egg Salad, which comes with miso mayo and truffle crisps between thick slices of white bread. The merguez and chicken sandwiches are also bangers but to be honest you can’t go wrong here. Oh, and they also do pre-bottled negronis to really spice up the journey – it is Christmas after all.

When you’re on the train unwrapping your beautiful sandwiches while people walk past you having dropped £15 on a microwave toastie and a packet of crisps from the catering car, let us tell you, you’re going to feel pretty smug. So if you want to win the train picnic game, travel like a pro and get yourselves to S+D.
