Have you heard the hype about TYPE? If not, get yourself over to Stoke Newington before 6th May to catch four of Britain’s biggest artistic talents on display together. Banksy, David Shrigley, Harland Miller and The Connor Brothers have been unified in this exhibition by their common use of text within their images.
Provocative, acerbic, witty and full of statements; from Banksy’s military tank coupled with the phrase ‘Have a nice day to Shrigley’s bright yellow ‘Sell your Soul’ to Miller’s play on a Penguin Classic book entitled ‘Death. What’s in it for me?’ to The Connor Brothers’ female siren with her head in her hands alongside the caption ‘I’m either in love or insane’. This show combines something distinctly British in its humour yet universal in its appeal – and not only makes you laugh but also makes you question, which art can and indeed should do. Good work Hang Up gallery!
