The first rule of Tuna Fight Club actually is do not be late
This pretty spectacular event, which is held at Supermarket of Dreams in Holland Park, kicks off at 7:30pm sharp, when guests are ushered out into the street to greet the arrival of the night’s star: a 200+ kg bluefin tuna.
Eat This
Barely 36 hours out of the water, this immense fish is unloaded from its ice-packed box onto a trolley before being wheeled into the kitchen counter where everyone gathers round. The chefs get to work slicing and trimming at the tuna while the compere of the evening gives some top tuna trivia about the various cuts and flavour profiles. It’s pretty incredible to watch this process up close. As the fish is efficiently carved into pieces, each guest is given a spoon for the first course of the night: a scoop of flesh from between the ribs, brushed with a light soy sauce.
Then you sit down around the big central table for a tuna omakase menu designed by head chef Juan Cardona (previously of Endo at the Rotunda), which features fresh-off-the bone tuna as well as the restaurant’s own dry-aged cuts.
There’s everything from tuna tataki to tuna tartare with cured egg yolk and caviar, but the best is when you’re invited up to the sushi counter to be handed round after round of freshly prepared tuna nigiri. Finally, you finish on some hot dishes including tuna and wagyu skewers, and a totally non-tuna but very tasty wagyu katsu sando.

The menu costs £195 including service but excluding drinks. The dishes will of course change week to week but you’re guaranteed to be eating a whole lot of tuna.
Why Go
The Tuna Fight Club is a pretty unique experience so if you can manage to get a ticket and it’s within your budget, it’s definitely worth seeking out.
