And it’s not that far away from the old big Topshop on Oxford Street
The hype for the big IRL Topshop comeback has been building over the last few months – first there was a pop-up shop in collaboration with Defected Records in Shoreditch back in May, offering fans the first chance to shop the brand in person since 2020, and then there was a big runway show in Trafalgar Square on 16th August to celebrate the relaunch of the Topshop.com website. Now we finally have news about the physical stores.
Topshop and Topman will be returning to the high street on Thurs 28th August with a boutique inside Liberty, which is just down the street from where the brand’s iconic flagship store on Oxford Street was (now home to IKEA). There’ll be a curated edit of pieces available to shop from, including everyday essentials, statement dresses, tailoring and denim, including the resurrected Joni jeans, as seen strutting down the Trafalgar Square runway – yes skinny jeans are coming back.
Speaking about the Liberty opening, Topshop’s Managing Director Michelle Wilson said, “Through Topshop and Topman, we want to bring the best of fashion to everyone. We’re thrilled to return to UK stores through Liberty — a brand that shares our passion for creativity, nurturing talent and pushing boundaries. This launch is about reconnecting with our community in real life, and we’re excited to kick things off with a full Liberty atrium takeover.”
This is just the first step in Topshop’s physical comeback as standalone stores are also in the works. For a whole generation of women, the big Topshop was the place to hang out, so it’ll be interesting to see how Topshop 2.0 goes down with those who missed the brand’s glory days.
