top festival tips

We’ve all had our ups and downs with festival camping, from having our tent trashed at Reading as teenagers and flooding at Glasto to the 5* luxury in a yurt at Wilderness, it’s been quite an experience. So we’ve hooked up with Boutique Camping to give you our top festival camping tips. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or a festival newbie you’ll wanna read this…

Ensure that you have suitable car insurance if you drive to the festival as cars here can often be targeted to be broken into. If you’re unsure about what your policy covers, then do review it beforehand to save potential stressing. You should also make sure that your car isn’t full of valuables – if it’s not needed, it’s best to leave it at home, where it’s a lot safer.

Make friends with your neighbours – not only is it someone else to part with, but they’ll help keep an eye on your stuff when you’re not there. Safety in numbers peeps!

Choose your spot carefully- keep out the way of main walking routes into the festival to avoid too much damage to your tent at night, don’t pitch in a dip as you’ll get flooded and whatever you do, don’t pitch near the toilets…

Mark your territory and make your tent identifiable- because after spending a whole day partying and drinking, finding that tent is harder than you imagine. Believe us, we’ve been there…

Take duct tape – with drunk people stumbling back to their tent it’s almost guaranteed that you’re gonna have a few repairs to do and duct tape really does do it all; it will even repair your shoes if everything goes wrong…

Take lots of bin bags – as with the duct tape, bin bags are good for patching up your tent in a disaster and of course putting wet stuff in; an essential for a British festival.

Choose a tent bigger than you need – yes a two man tent will fit you and two sleeping bags in, but what about all your booze, food and glittery tops?! And if it rains, you’ll thank us for the extra space.

Don’t bother taking a pillow if you’re short on space – just take a pillow case and you can make a pillow with some jumpers, yes it might not be as comfy but you’ll be drunk and probably pass out anyway!

Don’t bring what you can’t afford to lose and don’t leave your valuables in the tent… this is just good sense, and if you need to bring that iPhone just make sure you keep it on you at all times.

Bring some good lights – it’s dark, you’re drunk things can only end badly without some good light, and lights are better than fire. Tents & fire only end one way – badly!

Don’t lock your tent- it won’t protect your stuff (a knife is all you need to get into a tent!) and thieves will just think you have something valuable to hide.
