Tom Cenci Has Taken Over Mortimer House Kitchen

He’s moved the restaurant in an Italian direction

Tom Cenci has form with Guy Ivesha and Maslow’s – he runs Nessa at Maslow’s members’ club 1 Warwick in Soho – so it made sense that he would come over to relaunch the restaurant at the group’s other club Mortimer House in Fitzrovia. The look of Mortimer House Kitchen hasn’t changed, it’s still got the same mid-century interiors, but the open kitchen is now turning out an Italian menu.

Inspired by Cenci’s family summers in Piedmont and the Amalfi coast, the menu at Mortimer House Kitchen features dishes that reflect the simplicity of Italian cooking and pay homage to the classics, including the likes of:

  • crispy polenta and parmesan mayonnaise
  • smoked whipped ricotta
  • zucchini caesar with parmesan and pangrattato
  • carne cruda and ‘nduja bruschetta
  • maccheroni with taleggio, truffle and black pepper
  • calamarata with prawns, tomato and chilli oil
  • chicken or aubergine parmigiana with fresh spaghetti and cured egg yolk on the side
  • sirloin steak with focaccia and charred onions
  • Torta 900 chocolate cake from Turin
  • pistachio cannoli

That theme is carried through to the drinks list, which includes Italian wines and cocktails like the Alba (with Campari, Kwai Feh, La Yuzu, grapefruit soda and Prosecco) and the Milano-Bassano (with Grappa Moscato, Cocchi Torino, Campari and strawberry).

Early starters can get in on the action with breakfast dishes like Tuscan beans on toast, Italian baked eggs on focaccia, and ‘nduja bruschetta with whipped ricotta and poached eggs, with pan dulcis with Amarena cherries and pancakes with ricotta and Amalfi lemon curd being added at brunch.
