Use this as a reason to get your friends out of East
Walking along Fulham’s North End Road, Cobalto stands out. Busy tables outside the bright blue store front, it’s pretty much begging you to go in, enjoy a glass, and yap away.
Part-bottle shop, part-wine bar, Cobalto opened in late 2024 and has since become a neighbourhood favourite. When we visited on a drizzly Tuesday evening, people were being turned away at the door. The Fulham crowd clearly love their wine, but even if you’re not a local, this is well worth a visit.
The intimate space feels like a Tardis for wine, with a list filled with around 100 different French and Italian varieties, predominantly low-intervention. For the indecisive, or curious, there is an excellent selection of wines by the glass, including an orange Sauvignon Gris and “juicy AF” French chilled reds.
Even though Cobalto describes itself as a wine bar, the food is reason in itself to go. There’s a rotating seasonal menu taking inspiration from Portuguese tapas, serving up dishes like panelle with beetroot hummus and sumac dukkah mint oil; lemon whipped ricotta with carasau crispbread; generous charcuterie and cheese selections; and fresh oysters. There’s always room for dessert, and this is especially true when a white chocolate and fermented strawberry tartelette is on the menu.
While East has long been London’s natural wine hotspot, Cobalto gives West Londoners something to shout about too.
