There’s nothing Brits love talking about more than the weather. When there’s a heatwave, we’re moaning that we can’t cope; when it’s snowing, we’re moaning that we can’t cope; when it’s doing anything other than being around 20 degrees with a blue sky and the merest wisp of breeze, we’re moaning that we can’t cope. And let’s not even get started on the rain. It rains in the autumn, it rains in the winter (when it often also snows), it rains in the spring, and even when it’s summer and we’ve got a whole season’s worth of al fresco fun planned, the rain seems to find a way to fall.
So as well as packing an umbrella in your bag pretty much all year round, you need a solid list of rainy day things to in London in your back pocket. Yes you shouldn’t let a little rain from keeping you enjoying the city, especially when those unexpected showers appear and threaten to rain off your carefully laid outdoor plans. Luckily there are plenty of things to on a rainy day in London.
The capital is chock full of museums and galleries (many of which are free, perfect for a last-minute dash inside) which host a constant stream of excellent exhibitions. You can hit up one of London’s many independent cinemas – if it’s really pissing it down, settle in for a double feature – or soak up culture instead of water by taking in a show at the theatre. And if you like your rainy day activities a little more action-packed, dive into one of the city’s many immersive experiences where you can escape reality as well as the weather.
