The World’s First Museum Dedicated to Youth Culture Is Opening in London

It’s taking up residence at St. Pancras Campus in Camden

London is one of the best museum cities on the planet and it’s only getting better as the world’s first museum dedicated to youth culture is coming to the capital this May. Opening in Camden (a new Museum of Brutalist Architecture is also opening in the borough), the museum will collect, preserve and celebrate the stories of teenage life in Britain over the last century, covering subcultures, fashion, activism, and music. The Museum’s exhibition on emo music at the Barbican Music Library went down a storm in 2024 so we’re excited to see what they do with a permanent space.

The 6500 sq ft site will be home to three gallery spaces, which will document how various subcultures emerged before shaping the mainstream and how new generations continue to redefine Britain’s creative identity. Expect to see everything from band tees and rave flyers to school leavers shirts and shoebox photos from post-war bike racers, punks, acid house ravers and more. And London is just the start, with venues planned to open in Birmingham in 2027 and Glasgow in 2029.

Speaking about the opening, Jamie Brett, Co-Founder of the Museum of Youth Culture, said: “Everything in this museum exists because people cared enough to save it. Flyers kept in drawers. Photos stored on hard drives. Stories shared before they disappeared. We’ve poured years into protecting this culture because it belongs to the people who built it. Giving it a permanent home is about honouring that effort.”
