THE WORLD’S FIRST FACE MASK MADE FROM WASTED MILK IS HERE

Discarded Spirits, which makes rum from banana peel and vermouth from left-over cascara berries, is now tackling milk wastage – it’s one of the most wasted household ingredients in the UK – by making face masks from it. Yes really. Mi Terro, a company that extracts casein protein from the bacteria in ‘bad’ milk and spins it into fibres, provides the material which Discarded has turned into reusable face masks.

As well as being environmentally friendly, Discarded is using the masks to support on-trade by employing furloughed hospitality workers to make them and distributing them for free to selected bars across London.
