Trailer Happiness owner Sly Augustin and partner Maiko Neill are opening Portobello 177
Over the past twenty years, Trailer Happiness in Notting Hill has built up a rep for being one of London’s best cocktail bars and now in its anniversary year, owner Sly is taking things up a notch by opening a restaurant upstairs. Shay Ola (of Rebel Dining Society) will be heading up the kitchen at Portobello 177, where he’ll be cooking a menu that nods to both Caribbean and Japanese barbecue culture, with dishes like:
- grilled prawns with tare, fermented mango, lemongrass vinaigrette, chilli crisp & furikake
- braised oxtail with burnt padron pepper puree, caramelised carrot puree, carrot tops & sorrel leaves
- caramelised banana bread pudding, caramelised white chocolate & burnt coconut ganache
- burnt peach & coconut sorbet with kombucha syrup, pickled berries, shiso & toasted sesame oil
Naturally drinks will be a significant part of the Portobello 177 offering. There’ll be natural wines on the list, alongside a weekly ‘wild card’ wine, plus a weekly rotating selection of five cocktails, like The Stirred One, The Fizzy One and The Sour One, made with ingredients used in the kitchen that week and spirits from small-batch distillers.
As well as a central bar, Portobello 177 will also house a bottle shop that’ll be stocked with a range of high-end spirits from around the world, including plenty of rums from the likes of Ninefold in Scotland and Worthy Park in Jamaica, so you’ll be able to shake up a few bevvies of your own at home.
