Maida Vale is about to get a posh new boozer
With The Pelican in Notting Hill and The Bull, Charlbury (aka the hottest new spot in the Cotswolds), Phil Winser and James Gummer have been leading the posh pub wave. And they’re continuing to ride it, with the help of Olivier van Themsche, by opening The Hero in Maida Vale.
The pub has been through various renovations over the years but this one is keeping its Victorian charm intact, by stripping the interiors back and restoring original features like the lights and the staircase. There’ll be four distinct areas inside The Hero, starting with a cosy ground-floor pub with cask ales on the bar and British comfort food, like cheese & onion pie, on the menu. The first-floor Grill Room will offer a more elevated dining experience, where Head Chef Ed Baillieu will cook dishes like lamb chops with mint & peas and four quarter of cod with brown butter over open fire. Though the food offerings will be different across the pub’s different areas, there’ll be a shared focus on using sustainable and regeneratively farmed produce.
Above that, The Library will be a place to enjoy classic cocktails and bartender-in-residence nights, with a private events space available on the top floor. Sounds like it’s gonna be one hell of a local for all those of you in W9.
