The Team Behind The Cause to Open a Restaurant and HiFi Bar in Dalston

The Marquis of Landsdowne pub is being transformed into The Marquee Moon

After opening a bar (All My Friends) in Hackney Wick and a pub in Peckham (The Greyhound), the team behind Docklands-based nightclub The Cause is adding a restaurant to that list by opening The Marquee Moon (named after Television’s 1977 album) in Dalston.

As well as giving the old pub a full refurb, adding 80 covers in the ground floor space and a mid-century modern cocktail lounge downstairs, founders Stuart Glen and Eugene Wild have drafted in old friend and Kiwi chef Huri Rapana Neil to lead the kitchen. His menu will blend East Asian flavours with British pub classics with dishes like:

  • masala potato flatbread
  • sai ua sausage and mash
  • chicken char siu sando with fermented ginger cream
  • rice pudding brulee
  • negroni jelly sundae

Asian ingredients also feature in the cocktails, designed by Emmanuel Ferris-Hue (formerly of The Ned and Disrepute), which include a Pandan Old Fashioned and an Alfonso Margarita. GM Rosa Salice has curated the wine list, which focuses on natural, organic and biodynamic wines, including bottles from Italy and Georgia.

Given that The Marquee Moon is coming from The Cause crew, there’ll of course be music too. Come evening, the JBL HiFi sound system will kick into gear, with the likes of NTS’ Mafalda, Grace Sands of Adonis, The Cause resident Rosy Ross, Secretsundaze’s Giles Smith, Charlie Bones and more taking to the decks and playing esoteric selections until 3am. If you’ve been looking for a new late-night spot in Dalston, this might just be the one.
