The Team Behind The Baring Is Opening a Pub in Camberwell

The Kerfield Arms is being revived by Adam Symonds and Rob Tecwyn

Since it opened in Islington in 2022, The Baring has become a real local fave as well as a hit with the critics (it’s currently number 17 in the UK’s Top 50 Gastropubs list), and now founders Adam and Rob are hoping to replicate that success south of the river. The duo are taking over The Crooked Well in Camberwell and reopening the pub under its original 1863 name, The Kerfield Arms, with a similar stripped back aesthetic.

Chef Jay Styler, who’s been at The Baring since it opened, will be leading the kitchen at The Kerfield Arms, cooking dishes like:

  • cuttlefish & lardo shish with pul biber chilli
  • fried pig’s head with smoked eel and warm tartare sauce
  • smoked Costoluto tomato with ricotta mustia and sea kale
  • Yorkshire hogget with violet artichokes, bagna cauda and pine nuts
  • grilled monkfish with hand-rolled fregola and shrimp bisque
  • ricotta & nettle dumplings with broad beans and wild garlic buttermilk
  • Gariguette strawberry & chamomile custard doughnut
  • 70% Cru Virunga chocolate & olive oil mousse

The Baring’s excellent value mid-week lunch offering – a main for £12 or £15 with a pint or glass of wine – will be heading south, as will the pub’s Sunday roast, with mains like Ibérico pork belly, calçots and apple ketchup, and charcoal-grilled Vendée chicken with piattone beans and bread sauce.

If you’re just popping into The Kerfield Arms for a drink, you’ll be as spoiled for choice, with a short selection of classic cocktails (like gimlets, martinis and pina coladas), and wines from the old world and small producers working naturally on offer. There’ll also be eight keg beers on at the bar, including the Kerfield’s house lager by Lost & Grounded; two on cask, one being Five Points XPA and one rotating tap; plus some larger sharing bottles and more unusual sour and spontaneous fermentation beers. CHEERS.
