The Natural Philosopher is getting a new lease of life
Hidden inside a Mac repair shop on Hackney Road, The Natural Philosopher was one of the most unusual bars in London. Sadly owner Josh decided to close the cocktail bar in the summer of this year, but happily it’s not sat empty for too long, because Allison Crawbuck and Rhys Everett, owners of The Absinthe Parlour at The Last Tuesday Society, have taken on the space.
That means it’s remaining a cocktail bar, just with a new focus on whisky. There’ll be a curated rotating collection of 24 whiskies on offer, ranging from cult faves to oddball selections, and once a bottle is finished, something new will take its place so there’ll always be something fresh to discover.
As well as drams, you can choose form eight signature cocktails, highballs, and, in a nice nod to Josh, picklebacks. Things get even more special on Wednesdays, where the evenings will be dedicated to exceptional whiskies with special cocktail menus and tasting flights.
Speaking about the bar, co-owner Allison said, “Expect all the fun of a late-night neighbourhood bar, but in a hidden and completely unexpected setting. We’ve put whisky centre stage with approachable pours, playful flights, and a menu that invites you to explore. Pop in for a cocktail, find yourself staying for a beer and a whisky.”
