THE TEAM BEHIND SUSHIHEADS HAS LAUNCHED A NEW SPOT IN HACKNEY

Called OkonomiHeads, the new restaurant specialises in authentic okonomiyaki

Not too long ago, Tottenham said goodbye to one of its favourite sushi spots, the perfectly named SushiHeads. Now, there’s good news and bad news. The good news, the team has opened a new restaurant, OkonomiHeads (an equally good name), which is all about bringing authentic okonomiyaki to London. The bad news? Sorry, N15 denizens, this is no longer your local.

Yes, the SushiHeads/OkonomiHeads team has moved down south (well, south of Tottenham) and opened up shop in Hackney. The new concept was inspired by founder Naomi Simpson’s parents, who ran an okonomiyaki bar in Osaka before retiring at the beginning of this year, and their recipes.

Okonomiyaki is a popular Japanese street food, a fried batter pancake filled or topped with meat, vegetables or seafood – it’s often referred to as ‘Japanese pizza’. You’ll find several varieties on the menu: plain, pork, beef, seafood (squid and prawn), kimchi & cheese, mochi & cheese and enoki mushroom. There’s the option to top your okonomiyaki with the likes of spring onion or a fried egg and to pair it with sides such as smacked cucumber or gyoza. Plus, there’s a selection of onigiri and yakisoba on the menu too, so if you’ve been missing your SushiHeads fix, get over to E2.
