The Tamil Prince Team is Heading South of the River and Opening in Clapham

But it won’t be another Indian pub

The Tamil Prince and The Tamil Crown have both been big hits with critics and diners alike but for the group’s next opening – its first south of the river – the team are going for something a little more casual. Tamila, opening on Northcote Road in Clapham this October, will be an evolution of the food hall concept that debuted at Hackney Bridge in Hackney Wick.

Taking inspo from co-founder and executive chef Prince Durairaj’s South Indian heritage, the Tamila menu will feature dishes from Tamil Nadu and across the subcontinent. Curries and roti will be the focus, complemented by additional breads like garlic coriander naan, Peshwari naan, and kulcha naan, plus masala poori (puffed fried wheat flour bread with coconut chutney and potato masala), chilli cheese dosa, mutton uttampam, and masala dosa. There’ll also be a range of specials cooked in the tandoor and snacks like chicken lollipops, gobi 65, and fried baby sweetcorn on offer.

With a house Tamila lager and Indian-spiced cocktails, such as the Tamil Negroni, Gunpowder Margarita and Charcoal Old Fashioned on the drinks list, it sounds like one hell of a curry house.
