Chiswick sits somewhat on the periphery of the London foodie’s radar, somewhere between “Is there a tube station?” and “Why would you go there?” From October, the answer to question two is simple: to eat retired dairy cow beef at The Silver Birch.
Sitting flush on Chiswick High Road, The Silver Birch is the first restaurant from Tim Price (who trained at Leith’s), with chef Kimberly Hernandez (formerly of Xu and Kym’s) heading up the kitchen.
This is a neighbourhood joint with a globally inspired menu. Think blooming onion tart with tarragon and lemon (yes); potato and cabbage gratin (yes); iberico schnitzel with lemon and capers (oh bloody hell, YES). And – wait for it – fried tarte tatin and XXL lemon meringue éclairs for dessert. Good lord.
