The Salusbury has always been a bit of a north-west London institution – half pub, half dining room
Now it’s back, under the watch of Gareth Cooper (the man behind Printworks and Freight Island) and Alex Payne (of The Rectory and The Potting Shed). Basically, two blokes who know their way around both a festival stage and a very good pint. To take care of the food, they have brought in chef Tarryn Bingle, whose CV lists the likes of La Trompette, Arbutus and The Pem.
Eat This
The menu’s a mix of pub comfort and on-trend seasonal cooking. We loved the parmesan churros to begin – a plate of naughty, salty, deep-fried snacks, the perfect kick-off to any meal. We also enjoyed a Dorset crab linguine ‘cacio e pepe’ and beef tartare with some bone marrow cream and crispy shards of pommes paille. For mains, the highlight was a roasted cod served with mussels and leeks in a cider sauce, with an excellent side of triple-cooked chips. Don’t miss desserts either, a pineapple tarte tatin and doughnuts with blackberry and cream were both excellent.

Drink This
As you’d expect from a pub, there’s a solid line-up of pints and cocktails – from seasonal serves like the Fig Leaf Daiquiri to the current drink of the moment, a straight-up Martini – but we went for a cold, crisp glass of champagne. The wine list’s also well worth exploring.
Why Go
Most of the good places to eat around here sit on Lonsdale Road, and beyond that, dining options are pretty thin. So The Salusbury is a very welcome addition to the Queen’s Park scene, and with its easy, crowd-pleasing menu, it’s ideal for a relaxed catch-up with friends.
