THE NOOK OPENS IN HIGHBURY

Husband and wife team Angus and Lale Oztek-Pook have taken over the space where Linden Stores used to be and opened new deli and wine bar The Nook in its place. As well as running front of house Angus has overseen the wine list, which focuses on sustainable, organic, biodynamic and minimal intervention wines with bottles from Renegade in Bethnal Green as well as from Georgia, Armenia, Italy, France, Austria and Spain.

Lale heads up the kitchen and has created an eclectic menu with European and Turkish influences. Dishes include hummus with pickled Naga chilli oil & crispy chickpeas; pourlade clams with wild garlic, beurre blanc & courgettes; crayfish & brown crab mayo on toasted brioche; gochujang beef short rib with mashed sweet potatoes; veal schnitzel with English mustard aioli, pickled apple & celery; shredded root tarator; mastic rice pudding with sour cherry; and chocolate & hazelnut pot with kasha crumble. If you don’t want to eat in, you can get all the dishes to takeaway as well as homemade condiments, cheese and charcuterie from the deli. And you can even pick up some vinyl too as Angus has a selection of records from independent labels for sale.
