One to Watch | Grove
Hailing from Bristol, fast rising newbie Grove is the latest vocalist/ producer shaking up the underground. Infusing elements of punk into their dancehall, jungle and pop-inspired beats, their genre-blurring stylings soundtrack lyrics inspired by everything from queer identity to chucking Edward Colston’s statue into the river. Fresh and unique, their shapeshifting sound is a musical shot of adrenaline, perfect for anyone wanting to rave their cares away. Catch them bringing the party at their slot at DIY Alive Festival at Oval Space this April!
New Release | CMAT, If My Wife New I’d Be Dead
Tipped in our ones to watch for this year, we at DIY HQ have been obsessing over CMAT ever since she sang about getting over heartbreak in a KFC way back in 2020. Now, with everyone clocking onto the wondrous wit and killer country-flecked stylings that the Dublin singer-songwriter has in family size bucketloads, she’s gearing up to drop her grammatically-perplexing debut album ‘If My Wife New I’d Be Dead’ this month. “The concept of the album is specifically about my psyche,” she told DIY in our Class of 2022 issue, “but also the entire history of the nation of Ireland, and the entire generation that is late Millennials, or early Gen Z!”
Gig of the Month | Master Peace at Hoxton Hall
With two ace EPs (2020’s ‘Love Bites’ and last year’s ‘Public Display of Affection’) showing off his knack for infectious indie bangers, DIY Class of 2021 fave Master Peace is heading to Hoxton Hall on 3rd March to bring us the hits in real life. Known for his raucous, mosh pit-inducing live sets, the sold out show is sure to be brimming with good vibes and Peace’s hard-to-resist energy (which he’ll also be bringing for a just-announced set at DIY Alive too, FYI). If that’s not enough to get you excited, his recent tip by The Streets’ Mike Skinner on their collab ‘Wrong Answers Only’ is further proof of the Londoner’s swiftly rising star.
