The London Overground Is Having a Rebrand

Say so long to an orange Overground

If you’ve ever realised a little too late that you’ve hopped on the wrong London Overground train, we’ve got some very good news for you. After being announced back in February that all Overground lines will finally be given names and colours, à la those on the London Underground to make differentiating between them worlds easier, the rebranding rollout is now underway. The new signage is being implemented from Weds 20th November and most of the stations will be updated by Mon 25th November.

Since they were launched in 2007, London Overground lines have always been just one colour – orange – and they’ve never been given individual names. That’s no longer the case as each of the six routes will have their own names and colours – here’s what they are:

  • Euston to Watford Junction line – Lioness line, yellow
  • Stratford to Richmond/Clapham Junction line – Mildmay line, blue
  • Highbury & Islington to New Cross/Crystal Palace/West Croydon/Clapham Junction line – Windrush line, red
  • Liverpool Street to Cheshunt/Enfield Town/Chingford line – Weaver line, maroon
  • Gospel Oak to Barking Riverside line – Suffragette line, green
  • Romford to Upminster line – Liberty line, grey

Transport for London (TfL) decided to make these changes in an effort “to make the network easier to navigate and reflect the Capital’s diverse history”. It’s not just station signage that needs to be changed, there are way-finding signs, in-train maps, in-train screens and announcements, and online and app maps that all need to be updated, so that should all be complete by Janaury.
