the linbury theatre opens at the royal opera house

The West End’s newest and most intimate venue, the Linbury Theatre, has opened at the Royal Opera House with a first live performance of contemporary dance. Next month the theatre will host the world premiere of new opera The Monstrous Child, featuring innovative puppetry and starring mezzo-soprano Marta Fontanals-Simmons, and The Royal Ballet will also perform in the space with New Work New Music, a series of world premieres set to contemporary music. The opening season programme also includes Handels’ Berenice and the Ivo Van Hoe-directed The Diary of One Who Disappeared.

The Royal Opera House has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment, with new cafes and bars as well as the new performance space, designed to open up the venue in the daytime and make it more accessible.
