The Inaugural Hackney Art Week Is Happening This Month

A brand new, free celebration of art, culture and local creativity is happening in Hackney this June with the inaugural edition of Hackney Art Week. A host of venues across the borough, including Wilton Way Gallery, The Scolt Head, Ombra, Abney Park Cafe, On the Square, The Cannery, Fran’s and The Clarence Tavern, will be hosting public art, exhibitions, screenings, talks and performances inspired by the theme ‘Reimagining Local’.

Artists such as Sara Rupp, Tom Halifax, Laxmi, Olivia Twist, Bert Gilbert, Katie King, Charlotte Ginsborg, Grey Grey and Etienne Clement, will be showcasing their work. On the Square in De Beauvoir will become a site for artistic exchange across the ten-day event, with live sound collages, communal weaving, guerrilla-style printmaking pop-ups and more. And across the weekend of 14th and 15th June, there’ll be screenings of the Joseph Beuys performance I Love America and America Loves Me at Street Road Artists Space.
