The Iconic Regency Cafe Has Just Gone Up for Sale

It could be yours for £170,000

Even if you’ve not eaten at the Regency Cafe in Westminster, you’ll surely recognise the famous Art Deco-style spot, with its original tiling, checked cafe curtains and formica tables, from many a BBC drama and movies like Layer Cake, Rocketman and Brighton Rock. First opened in 1946, it’s regarded as one of the best places to get a Full English breakfast in the city, which still comes in under a tenner. As well as various brekkie combos, the menu also features caff classics like ham, egg & chips, steak & kidney pudding, chicken escalope, and spaghetti bolognese.

Having been run by Antonio Perotti and Gino Schiavetta (and subsequently their children) since 1986, Regency Cafe has just gone up for sale and is listed on Rightmove for £170,000 (which is remarkably cheap given the property prices in Westminster), with the current rent sitting at £29,000 a year.

According to the listing, “The Regency Cafe presents a fantastic opportunity to take over a well-established, iconic establishment in the heart of Westminster. With its rich history, loyal customer base, and prime location near major transport hubs and tourist attractions, the cafe has significant potential for continued success and growth. The existing reputation for quality food and efficient service provides a strong foundation for a new owner to build upon, whether by maintaining its traditional charm or introducing new concepts to attract a wider audience. This investment offers the chance to be part of a beloved local landmark with a proven track record of attracting both locals and visitors.”

So if you’re in the market for a genuine piece of London history and you’ve got £200k going spare, Regency Cafe could be yours.
