The River Stage, the free outdoor arts festival by the National Theatre, is returning to the Southbank and, once again, it’s being opened in style with a weekend takeover from The Glory. Curated by the venue’s legendary owners, Jonny Woo and John Sizzle, the programme will see faves from previous years return so expect the likes of drag contests Lipsync1000 and Man Up!, a Drag Life Drawing session and some classic club nights DJ’d by leading Glory artists. After that, the James Cousins Company will be taking over the stage with a bold celebration of dance, then, Shubbak will bring a programme of ground-breaking Arab arts to the theatre before Hackney Empire’s Young Producers close the fest out with performances from some of the city’s best up-and-coming talent. Plus, KERB will be back providing the food – what a way to start the summer.
