Adam Handling is one of our favourite London chefs and is the star of our latest Yes Chef podcast which you can listen to now. We also recently went down to his latest restaurant, The Frog Hoxton, which he opened in place of his original solo debut The Frog E1.

Similar to the original there’s bold interior design, including the distinctive graffiti frog logo and Union Jack emblazoned chairs. There’s also Adam’s amazing inventive food, available as a la carte or tasting menu options. We love a tasting menu we do so that’s what we ended up going for and we were glad to see Adam firing on all cylinders.

We began with a selection of snacks: smooth duck liver pate with plums on toast; cod brandade with wild garlic; and sweet heritage carrot with roasted hazelnuts and mint. Potentially best of all though was the warm bread with chicken butter… oh man we could not get enough of that chicken butter.

Next up was roasted celeriac covered in freshly shaved black truffle – a perfect winter dish – followed by pork with black pudding, cabbage and apple. In place of a regular cheese course on the tasting menu, you’ll find Adam’s famous cheese doughnuts, pictured below. They are so so cheesy and so so good.

Adam has also added the Iron Stag bar to the basement, which has an emphasis on aged whiskies. There’s also the Bean & Wheat coffee shop and deli which houses a craft beer bottle shop and serves sandwiches, salads and desserts made using ingredients leftover from the main restaurant, and people can also bring back empty beer bottles in exchange for free coffees.
