Left-Handed Girl is the new Taiwanese drama on Netflix exploring family, identity and the complicated relationships between three generations of women. Set in Taipei, the film follows a mother and her two daughters as they navigate a changing family dynamic, with food playing an important role in their relationships and memories.
For the latest episode of our Insider Access series, we went behind the scenes of the film with director Sean Wang and actress Janel Tsai to explore the meaning of food throughout the story. From their personal connections to Taiwanese dishes to the memories and emotions attached to them, we looked at how food became much more than just part of the film’s setting.
We also headed to Ni Fon Kitchen, one of our favourite Taiwanese spots in London and a restaurant we featured in our Neighbourhood Watch series last week. The team helped us explore some of the dishes and flavours that connect the film to Taiwanese food culture.
This is Episode 3 of Insider Access, LOTI’s short-form documentary series taking you behind the scenes of the people, places and events shaping London.
Left-Handed Girl is available to watch on Netflix and in selected cinemas now.
