THE FAMILY BEHIND SATAY HOUSE HAS OPENED SUDU IN QUEEN’S PARK

Satay House in Paddington is one of London’s most loved Malaysian restaurants and now it’s got a baby sister in Sudu, now open in Queen’s Park. Siblings Fatizah and Irqam Shawal (whose parents opened Satay House back in 1973) are behind Sudu, which is a modern twist on the kopitiam, which are traditional coffee shops found across South East Asia, with the menu containing a mix of Malaysian classics and new dishes.

If you’re a fan of the beef rendang, nasi goreng, nasi lemak and nasi campur at Satay House you’ll be pleased to hear that they’re also on the Sudu menu, alongside nonya-style laksa with puffed tofu, chicken & prawn; char kway teow, stir-fried rice noodles with prawns, squid, egg & mustard greens; mee George Town, stir-fried noodles with tofu, prawn, beef, peanut, egg & potato; and whole grilled mackerel with a tamarind dip. If that wasn’t enough to get you down to Sudu, a Malaysian breakfast and a speakeasy-style bar for the basement are also in the works too.
