THE DONMAR WAREHOUSE IS DOING ITS FIRST ONLINE PRODUCTION

Many theatres, including the National Theatre and Shakespeare’s Globe, have been providing a culture fix by streaming filmed versions of past performances but the Donmar Warehouse is taking things a step further with its first online production. Artistic Director Michael Longhurst is directing Diana Quick in an online version of Adam Brace’s play Midnight Your Time, which will be premiered on YouTube and then stay on the channel for a week.

The play follows retired lawyer Judy who’s stuck at home and needs to keep occupied (sound familiar?) so she tries to call her daughter in Palestine every Thursday. Longhurst actually staged it with Quick back in 2011, and for this updated revival, she’ll be recording her performance via webcam. As he has said, “Adam’s prescient presentation of a then-burgeoning method of digital communication is so entirely a part of our lives under lockdown; and its commentary on ageing and isolation resonate even more profoundly at this time.”
