The Team Behind Crispin and Bistro Freddie Is Partnering With Mason & Fifth on a Canalside Restaurant

It’ll be part of the Mason & Fifth, Westbourne Park building

Mason & Fifth is adding a third flexible accommodation property to its collection this summer, with a Westbourne Park property joining the existing sites in Primrose Hill and Bermondsey. Taking over the site where the London Taxi Drivers’ headquarters used to be, it’ll be the largest one yet, with 332 studios; a wellness space with a pool, gym, treatment room and exercise studio; a cinema room; a listening lounge; a recording studio; a panoramic lounge on the 10th floor; and a canal-side restaurant.

That restaurant, aptly called Canal, is being opened in partnership with Dom Hamdy of HAM Restaurants, the group that’s behind Crispin, Bar Crispin and Bistro Freddie. It’ll be open to both guests and the general public for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with DJs taking to the decks come nighttime.

The kitchen will be headed up by Adrian Hernandez Farina (who’s most recently been at Humo as well as at ASKA in NYC and Coal Rooms in Peckham), with Sean Cooper (ex-Fat Duck, Quality Chop House and Muse) taking up the role of General Manager. Adrian’s seasonal, modern European menu will makes use of the best ingredients from the team’s network of farmers, day boat fishermen and producers. Expect the likes of:

  • polenta flatbreads with season butters
  • Portland crab doughnuts
  • Trombetta courgette with stracciatella and pangrattato
  • sea bream crudo with burnt blood orange and chilli
  • ricotta agnolotti with cavolo nero and pecorino
  • red mullet with bouillabaisse, mussels and Mangalitza sausage
  • Cornish John Dory with lemon dill butter and monksbeard
  • Jersey sirloin with brown butter jus, bearnaise and potatoes

A Bar with Shapes for a Name is doing the on-tap cocktails – think brown butter Old Fashioneds and orange wine Margaritas – while the wine list will feature bottles from both classic regions and progressive producers.
