THE CO-OWNER OF FRANK’S IN PECKHAM IS OPENING BAMBI IN LONDON FIELDS

We now know what’s happening to the Bright site following the wine bar’s shock closure in March

Given that Bright, along with Noble Fine Liquor and P.Franco (happily back in action under the name 107), closed without warning, we didn’t really get a chance to say goodbye to the London Fields spot. But now it’s time get excited about what’s taking its place as James Dye, the co-owner of Frank’s Café in Peckham and The Camberwell Arms, is opening Bambi there this October.

The music-led wine bar and restaurant, named after his great grandma and not the Disney deer, will feature a high-spec vintage sound system, a DJ booth and a custom-built wall of records, with both the collection and programme (DJs will spin until 1am on the weekends) curated by DJ, musician, poet and Rum Dem Crew founder Charlie Dark MBE.

Henry Freestone, who won a Bib Gourmand at Peckham Cellars, will be heading up the kitchen at Bambi, serving coffee and deli-style sarnies like chicken caesar foccacia and corned beef with mustard & pickles during the day, and an evening menu featuring dishes like:

  • cauliflower cheese arancini
  • braised butter beans with kale & goat’s curd
  • chicken parm ciabatta with vodka marinara, pickles & aioli
  • half or whole roast chicken with chicken fat focaccia & green sauce
  • Dedham vale rump with lemon & confit garlic
  • dark chocolate & ginger profiteroles
  • apple crumble sundae

The wine list at Bambi will centre around natural and low-intervention wines from around the world, with a strong by-the-glass selection and bottles available to buy to take home. If cocktails are more your bag, Bambi will be pouring aperitivos before dinner, twists on classics like the Bambi Martini, and then frozen tequila coffee cocktails to see you right through to the end of the night.

Opens Fri 6th October 2023
