Burnt Arches is coming to Bethnal Green
Family-run spot Burnt has been slowly growing over the past few years. Finlay and Honor Logan opened their OG site on Askew Road in 2021 and it’s since become known for its brunch, with dishes like poached eggs with rose harissa yoghurt, Jerusalem artichoke and kale; hot smoked salmon and kimchi omelette with deep-fried leek; and buttermilk pancakes with rhubarb, mascarpone and almond crumb available all week long.
The team opened a second site at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2023, serving salads, quiches, soups, sarnies and a hot dish of the day, and now site number three is on the way. Burnt Arches is coming to Bethnal Green this spring and will function as a space where the team can bake all their cakes, pastries and bread, including Burnt’s signature pistachio croissant, a rhubarb and apple chausson tossed in cinnamon sugar, and a savoury Welsh rarebit custard danish.
After launching initially with baked goods, sandwiches and coffee, the new Burnt will then start a full lunch and brunch menu, with a produce-led evening menu following that. Finlay will be doing more expressive cooking, with dishes like southern fried, crab-stuffed confit chicken wings with hot honey and roasted lemon; mac and cheese Scotch pie; and crab risotto with nduja butter and miso-cured egg yolk set to appear.
Speaking about the opening, Honor and Finlay said: “Bethnal Green feels like the first time we’ve been able to bring everything together properly. Baking has always been a big part of Burnt, but we’ve never really had the space to do it the way we wanted. Now we can make everything in-house, develop new ideas, and give that side of the business the attention it deserves.
“At the same time, it gives us room to push the evening side further as well. Dinner has always been something we’ve cared a lot about, and this site lets us expand on that – with more freedom, more flexibility, and a bit more ambition.”
