THE BARBARY NEXT DOOR TO OPEN

What started out as a delivery option back during lockdown 2.0, is now becoming a proper bricks and mortar spot. Lockdown success story, The Barbary Next Door, will be opening right next door to its big sister in Covent Garden next month. We can expect it to be slightly more relaxed than The Barbary we all know and love, but with head chef Daniel Alt still at the helm of the kitchen, their signature flavours of Moorish Spain and North African cooking will continue to feature on the menu.

Open from breakfast right through to dinner, there’s the likes of ras-el-hanout pumpkin bread served with sunflower seed clotted cream and ‘roadside eggs’ simmered in spiced tomato sauce with minced lamb kefta to tuck into first thing. As well as lighter dishes including mackerel fricassee and salads served with fluffy pita-style breads for lunch, plus larger dishes such as chicken pastilla filo pie, oxtail tagine and whole red mullet marinated in chermoula and cumin featuring on the evening menu. As well as all that, sommelier Honey Spencer is overseeing the natural wine list which will focus on organic Spanish, French and Moroccan bottles. Let’s just say October can’t come soon enough.
