The daddy of all football competitions is back this year so in honour of the World Cup (and with the hope that football is coming home) we’re bringing the LOTI Armchair Managers’ Club back this winter. With LOTI A.M.C, we’re scouting for self-proclaimed goal gurus, midfield mystics and offside oracles who think they can outsmart the bookies and their fellow armchair managers with their 2022 FIFA World Cup predictions. No money will be changing hands but A.M.C members will be in with the chance to win big prizes and eternal football manager bragging rights.
Before we get into the details, it’s important to address that year’s tournament is not without its issues – Qatar has strict anti-LGBTQ+ laws and the country also has a terrible record on human rights, including myriad abuses of migrant workers building the stadiums. There are ways you can support human rights whilst still watching the football, including donating to Amnesty International, signing the petition telling Qatar that Love is Not a Crime and one to end forced labour in the country, and writing an open-letter created by Human Rights Watch to FIFA.
Running from 20th November – 18th December, the FIFA World Cup is split into five stages (group, knockout, quarter final, semi final, final) and you’ll be able to predict the outcome of every game. Every result you get right earns you 10 points enabling you to rise up the ranks to becoming football manager royalty, and all those people who end up top of the pile by making the most correct predictions will be in with the chance of winning big. The Armchair Managers’ Club leaderboard will be updated after each game, allowing you to see how you fare against your rival managers.
After reaching the finals of the Euros last year (shout out to the Lionesses who went one better and won it this summer), England are in with a shot, even if the threat of penalties looms large. We’ve teamed up with a whole host of venues to secure tables for you and your mates to watch the final (fingers crossed England make it that far) so there’s never been a more exciting time to get involved. The competition closes on 14th December 2022 at midnight. The winners will be selected via randomised draw.
