Here’s a slice of music history worth clearing your diary for. The 100 Club is marking 50 years since the iconic 1976 Punk Special – the two-night bill widely cited as the moment UK punk broke from the underground into the mainstream – with two special anniversary shows. The original featured legends like Sex Pistols, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Damned and Buzzcocks, with the likes of Paul Weller, Shane MacGowan and Vivienne Westwood in the room. Half a century on, the world’s longest continuously running live music venue is doing it again.
Headlining night one are Irish trailblazers Sprints, one of the most incendiary live bands going, here tearing apart one of the smallest rooms they’ve played in years. Night two belongs to Maruja, whose genre-pushing blend of improvisation and explosion has made them one of the UK’s most talked-about new punk forces. Full support line-ups are announced on 19th September. Best of all, in the spirit of the original, tickets are being charged at 1976 prices. That’s just £1.50 (plus booking fee)!
