Restaurateur Nam Parama Raiva has taken over the site from her aunt Khun Patara Sila-On
Khun Patara Sila-On opened the Soho branch of Patara in 2005 (the first restaurant in South Kensington came even earlier in 1990) and twenty years later, it’s all change for the Greek Street site. Her niece Nam Parama Raiva has taken the reins and flipped the space into Platapian.
The new restaurant is still Thai, with the menu drawing inspiration from traditional family recipes and regional dishes, and incorporating both Thai ingredients and British produce. It includes the likes of:
- crispy chicken skin with garlic and Kaffir lime
- prawn kolae skewer
- sai oua pork sausage with spicy aubergine relish
- Issan-style crispy duck salad with Thai herbs
- southern-style yellow curry with crabmeat or escargot
- beef short ribs in five spice ‘paloh’ and salted egg yolk
- lobster tail stir fried noodles
- deep fried whole seabass with sweet chilli glaze
- pandan crème brûlée with coconut milk ice cream and crispy Thai roll crêpe
- southern-style roti with banana and petchaburi coconut caramel
Thai ingredients also feature heavily across the cocktail list, with serves like the Tom Yum-tini (vodka, Patara tom yum, lime and bird’s eye chilli) and the Pak Praew Margarita (tequila, pak praew, mint, lime and palm sugar). Whether you were a regular at Patara or not, Platapian sounds like it’ll be worth a visit.
