And founder Man Hon Luk needs your help
After becoming immersed in the world of BBQ in Austin, where he learned the art of low-and-slow cooking under pitmaster John Bates at the Michelin-starred Interstellar, Luk founded Uncle Hon’s BBQ on his return to the UK, blending Asian flavours inspired by his Hong Kong roots with Texan BBQ.
Following a series of pop-ups and a long-term residency at All My Friends in Hackney Wick that ran from August 2023 – December 2025, Uncle Hon’s BBQ is now ready to open a permanent site of its own. Luk is taking over the former Silo space above Crate Brewery in Hackney Wick and he’s launched a crowdfunder campaign to raise money to cover essential restaurant equipment and infrastructure.
As well as serving up fusion BBQ, Luk will nod to his record shop and DJ background by turning the restaurant into a music-led space on Friday and Saturday nights, with a late-night grill menu, DJs and live performances.
