The V&A is one of our fave places in London, so we’re pretty excited about their new V&A East project. The new exhibition and collection spaces at the Olympic Park in Stratford – a five-storey waterfront museum and a collection and storage space at Here East – will showcase 250,000 objects and give a home to many pieces, like tapestries and theatrical backcloths, normally kept in storage. The waterfront museum will be co-curated with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, so we can expect some pretty special exhibitions, whilst the Here East space will also be used for performances, pop-ups and screenings as well as showcasing the way objects are archived, conserved and stored in a museum.
We’ve got a while to wait yet – the V&A East is not due to open until 2023 – but it’s going to be a fantastic addition to Stratford when it finally does arrive.
