TAKA TO OPEN SECOND LOCATION IN MARYLEBONE

Like everyone else, we were gutted when Providores closed its doors this summer, after 18 years in business. It was one of our favourite spots in London, especially for breakfast – we could have eaten those Turkish eggs all day every day. 18 years is a lifetime in London restaurant terms however, and sadly Peter Gordon had to shut up shop in July. But now we know what’s taking its place – the Japanese restaurant Taka (read our review here), which also has a location on Shepherd Market, and the original one in Tokyo.

We were impressed by Taka when we visited back in 2017 – we found some excellent sushi and grilled skewers such as the glazed pork belly. We can expect more of the same from the new Marylebone High Street location, which is due to open in April 2020. Also on the menu will be the likes of tuna tataki, vegetable tempura, and miso black cod, as well as sake, Japanese cocktails, and whiskies.

London is full of amazing Japanese restaurants at the moment so the new Taka is another welcome addition – if it did take the place of Providores.
