Originally airing on Channel 4 way back in 2011, the show made a significant mark with its dystopian brand of political and cultural satire, as well as its jaw-dropping shock factor. Since moving to Netflix, it has become sort of watered down, with its last season ending on a Disney-esque sour note. But given what’s gone down in the time it’s been away, the creators have had plenty of material to work with to make season six a return to form. Buckle in for this one. Through a series of interviews with those who knew him -even if very briefly - as well as never before seen archival footage, the film looks at the formative years of the legendary band and all the rivalries and relationships that appeared along the way. Stones stans - you won't wanna miss this one. It also, as its star Ali Wong says, "works as a romantic comedy". It's funny, intense, satirical and, ultimately, quite sweet. While the titular diplomat Kate Wyler means business, the show doesn't take itself too seriously and it's already pulled in comparisons to The West Wing - it does come from one of their writer/producers after all. TVDinner | Leave the drama on screen and have a fuss-free dinner at home with one of these deliveries. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vkrFohHX8WeU&ab_channelSHOWTIME YELLOWJACKETS It's been a long time since season one aired back at the end of 2021, but Yellowjackets is finally coming back to our screens on 24th March - it couldn't come soon enough after that cliffhanger. The trailer isn't giving too much away, but we can expect to see more of the story unfold both in the flashbacks to 1996 and in the present day (not too much though, as the series has already been renewed for a third season), as well as a new character, Elijah Wood as detective Walter. Notoriously, Princess Diana told her that she loved it when Paula was on the front cover of the tabloids because it meant that she got a day off. Now, over 20 years after her death, Channel 4 is looking back at Paula's story and uncovering what it can tell us about women in the public eye through a series of interviews with those who knew her. Yes the long-awaited return of Idris Elba as detective John Luther is here and this time, he's on the hunt for a sadistic serial killer (played by Any Serkis) who's terrorising the city by stalking his prey by using their internet history. With London as the backdrop, awful crimes and more than a few jump scares, it's got all the Luther classics that fans of the TV show will know and love. After that dramatic ending in season one (no spoilers here), season two picks up with Michael as a broken man, who's thrown a lifeline by the authorities who ask him to help bring down the Baxter crime family once and for all. Despite an extensive search operation, the reason for the crash is still unknown, though several theories (including conspiracies) abound and that's exactly what this doc dives into - but don't go expecting any conclusive answers. It follows the rise and fall of the eponymous band during 70s LA, led by Daisy Jones (played by Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne (played by Sam Claflin), capturing all the highs and lows involved in becoming the most famous band in the world. Exploring the big questions that arise during mid-life, it stars Jesse Eisenberg as Toby, who's been left with his kids when his ex-wife Rachel (played by Claire Danes) disappears, just as he's reconnecting with old friends (played by Lizzy Caplan and Adam Brody) and diving into the world of dating apps in New York. TVDinner | Tuck into an NYC classic - the BECSPK - as you watch the drama unfold in Manhattan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vUgHN-YE7IPI&ab_channelUtopia MEET ME IN THE BATHROOM Based on the book of the same name by Lizzy Goodman, Meet Me in the Bathroom is a documentary that looks back at New York City’s music scene during the early 2000s. Bands like the Strokes, the Rapture, Interpol, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem were key players during the period which was characterised by a merging of grimy underbelly and glamour which is now referred to as ‘Indie Sleaze’. The doc explores the era through archive footage and talking head interviews - if you’re a fan of early 00’s indie, you’ll wanna catch this. A must-watch for any hip-hop heads. TVDinner | Powerful music needs a fire dish, just like this chicken burger. https://www.youtube.com/watch?vxEQP4VVuyrY&ab_channelAppleTV SEVERANCE It’s been a while since we had an intelligent, high concept TV show that actually delivers the goods, but in Severance we finally have just that. The set up is centred on a group of workers at Lumon Industries, who have voluntarily undergone “severance” whereby your work-self (your innie) and your outside self (your outtie) exist happily without knowledge of what the other does in their separate roles. Of course, it’s not that straightforward, and as the workers start to realise that all is not what it seems, they hatch a rebellious plan to break free. It’s a bit of a slow burn, so do stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with a funny, clever show with some great performances from Adam Scott, Britt Lower, John Turturro and the incredible Tramell Tillman who almost steals the show with the bizarre but hilarious ‘Defiant Jazz’ dance scene in one episode. And just when you think you’re going to get some answers, the incredible season finale only threw up more questions, in superb fashion. Roll on season two. Divisions within the family will become exacerbated as the looming sale of Waystar RoyCO tech visionary Lukas Matsson gets closer, with power struggles ensuing. TVDinner | Get in the bougie NYC spirit with an amped-up hot dog and Champagne pairing at the Colony Grill Room. FELLOW TRAVELERS Part love story, part political thriller - Fellow Travelers is the new LGBTQ+ drama featuring Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer that's breaking the internet, and that's before we've even got a trailer. The eight-part series will centre around the decades-long romance between two men that spans the 1960s Vietnam War protests, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the 1980s AIDs crisis, all whilst they battle personal struggles too. TVDinner | You've time to head to London's new floating restaurant before watching this one. SQUID GAME Squid Game season two has been given the green light and we're so ready for the new round. Two BIG characters will be returning (Gi-hun and The Front Man) but as for the rest, it's all in creator's Hwang Dong-Hyuk's mind for now. Stay tuned for more Squid Game 2.0 deets.
