Updated: 11th May 2026 Kawan Uncle Roger, aka Nigel NG, has built a 5-million-strong following for roasting people’s (including Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay) fried rice dishes, and now he’s showing us how it should be done by opening his own restaurant. Nigel already has experience in the restaurant biz – he has a number of branches of FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger in Malaysia – but Kawan is first UK opening, and he’s teaming up with Keng Yew (co-founder of YiQi, San Hao, Dozo and The Eight) and Executive Chef Daren Liew (Nanyang Blossom, San Hao, Duddels and Hakkasan Group) to bring it to life. The 60-cover spot in Chinatown is relaxed and informal, and the pan-Asian menu follows a similar vibe. Rather than focusing on regional authenticity, the food showcases Asian techniques and flavours adapted for British produce and tastes, with dishes like Sarawak Pepper Belly Delight; Chinatown Fried Rice; Hainanese Chicken Chop; Crispy Puff Chicken Wellington; and Wasabi Boom Boom Sausage. Opened May 202612 Macclesfield Street, London W1D 5BPkawanlondon.co.uk All Roads After running sold-out supper clubs for the past three years, Malika Green and Paschelle Brown (who’ve spent time at the likes of Lai Rai, Patty & Bun, Daddy Bao and Soho House) have found a bricks-and-mortar space for All Roads in Brixton. Open on Atlantic Road, the 35-cover restaurant (plus more space on the terrace) is designed to be an extension of the supper club; a real neighbourhood spot centred around bringing people together and fostering community over good food, with DJ sets running on the weekends. Like the supper clubs, the All Roads restaurant menu takes inspiration from the pair’s Caribbean heritage as well as their travels and their decade of experience at numerous London kitchens. That means dishes like butterbean whip with soy pecans, cherry peppers and cassava chips; torched mackerel on toast with tomato jam; fried wings marinated in sweet black tea and herbs; clams in soy and tomato sauce with parmesan; low-and-slow oxtail; pork chops with pimento peppercorn sauce and buttered apple with thyme; and seasonal cobblers, pies and house-made ice creams. Ornella, open on Wilton Way (on the site that was previously home to Fran’s and just a few doors down from Sally Abé’s new spot Teal), wis taking inspo from Milan, the city where Naz was raised. The menu showcases the flavours of northern Italy, meaning dishes like Mondeghili meatballs; penne alla vodka; tagliatelle al burro e Parmigiano; risotto alla Milanese; vitello tonnato; cotoletto di vitello; mille foglie alle fragole; and zuppa Inglese. Opened May 202651 Wilton Way, London E8 1BG @ornella.restaurant Trèsind Trèsind opened in Dubai in 2014 and has become a popular spot thanks to its “modernist Indian dining experience”, aka dishes like scarlet prawn crudo with Kashmiri chilli XO and beluga caviar; grilled lobster tail with coconut moilee dressing; hunter’s lamb leg raan; A5 wagyu steak with five curries; and daulat ki chaat with soan papdi crumble and 24-carat gold dust. Now Trèsind has made the move over to London, following in the footsteps of other UAE imports like Shanghai Me and Gaia, and opened in Mayfair. Chef Himanshu Saini has brought some of the restaurant’s signature dishes, like the chaat trolley and khichdi, to the capital as well as creating some new menu items exclusively for London. The bar is drawing on India’s regional drinking traditions for the cocktail list, which features number of Indian ingredients and spices. Opened May 202613 Hanover St, London W1S 1NEtresind.co.uk 130 Primrose Home Kitchen in Primrose Hill was opened in the autumn of 2024 to help socially vulnerable transform their lives by providing employment. In the year that it operated under Executive Chef Adam Simmonds, the restaurant employed 16 individuals affected by homelessness, with five members of the original cohort progressing into permanent hospitality roles, which is why Home Kitchen was one of our 2025 Heroes. Now the social enterprise is getting a new lease of life as the space has flipped into 130 Primrose, with Monica Galetti stepping into the Exec Chef role and Head Chef Eric Zhang leading the kitchen. Like its previous incarnation, 130 Primrose recruits people with experience of homelessness, offers them paid work, accredited training, and opportunities to progress further in the hospitality industry. The 50-cover restaurant is open all day, all week, serving a Mediterranean-inspired menu, with salads and sandwiches also available at lunchtimes, charcuterie and cheese on offer in the evenings, and a speakeasy-style cocktail bar coming in the summer. Opened May 2026130 Regent’s Park Rd, London NW1 8XL130primrose.org Dough Hands at All My Friends With Dough Hands, Hannah Drye has built a rep for slinging some of the best pizzas in town, with thin and crispy crusts and flavourful topping combos. You can get your Dough Hands fix at the Spurstowe Arms in Dalston, and after ending the residency at the Old Nun’s Head in South London, Hannah has doubled down on East London by setting up a permanent space at All My Friends in Hackney Wick. Dough Hands has taken over the kitchen in the Shipping Container, with a fresh new menu that includes pizza, made with regenerative flour from Shipton Mill and Wildfarmed, by the slice or whole 20-inch pies. Expect the likes of tomato pie with anchovy, stracciatella & green sauce; garlic sausage & pistachio pesto; Lamiri Harissa aubergine & salted ricotta; coppa, pineapple & house guindilla; and tequila sauce & sausage. Opened May 2026All My Friends, Unit 1, 96 White Post Lane, London E9 5EN@doughhandspizza MA/NA Thesleff Group (which already operates Los Mochis, LUNA Omakase, Juno Omakase, and Sale e Pepe) has opened a new Japanese restaurant in Mayfair. Inspired by the idea that every ingredient carries an invisible power, the 156-cover MA/NA celebrates the craft of Japanese food. Executive Chef Leo Tayang’s menu includes dishes like tiger shrimp tempura with wasabi; robata-seared avocado with asparagus, mushrooms and spicy mayo baked in a flaming shell; and M5 Wagyu seared on a Himalayan salt stone with garlic-soy, ponzu and mixed Asian leaves. MA/NA also has a cocktail bar, with resident DJs, that references rare spirits and 1970s Tokyo soul. Opened May 202630 Upper Grosvenor Street, London W1K 7PHmanarestaurants.com Bar Etna Ed McIlroy already has popular pub (The Plimsoll) and buzzy Spanish spot (Tollingtons) to his name, and now he’s got into the pizza game with a helping hand from across the pond. Joe Beddia, whose Philly spot Pizzeria Beddia has won several plaudits (including a Bib Gourmand this year) has teamed up with Ed to open Bar Etna in Newington Green, which is his first restaurant outside of the US. At Bar Etna, the pizzas are made in Joe’s signature style and come as whole pies, with Ed adding an “ingredient-led approach” to the toppings, with rotating specials showcasing the best seasonal produce. There’s a number of Italian-American dishes, like aubergine parmigiana and meatballs on offer too alongside soft serve, house spritzes, negronis on tap, and low-intervention wines. Opened May 202647 Newington Green, London N16 9PX@bar.etna.london Dallas Burger Shoreditch is becoming something of a burger hub – hyped burger joint Meat Stop is slinging buns out of the Commercial Tavern, Parisian spot Dumbo chose the neighbourhood for its first London location, Burger & Beyond has a branch on Shoreditch High Street, and now Lisbon’s Dallas Burger has opened just down the road, on the corner of Shoreditch High Street and Rivington Street. Dallas is part of hospo group Vida Plena, which runs 13 restaurants across Lisbon, including seafood grill Rosamar, Middle Eastern tavern Farès, pasta restaurant Leonetta, pizza spot Coppola and four branches of Dallas across the city. 100% grass-fed, freshly-made beef burgers are the name of the game at Dallas, with options including the Classic Cheeseburger (with cheddar, lettuce, chopped onions, pickles & Dallas sauce), the Truffle Mushroom (with sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, rocket salad & truffle mayo), and the Italian Summer (with balsamic vinegar, rocket salad, roasted marinated tomato, grilled zucchini, parmesan & basil mayo). Opened May 2026138-139 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JE@dallas.burgerjoint Lokal It’s got patisserie and Mediterranean-Italian food down with Fred Bakery and Faros, and now the same team behind those two concepts has taken on Turkish food with new restaurant Lokal. The Fitzrovia spot, boasting 110 covers (plus a few more outside), a semi-private dining room, a counter and a cocktail bar, is showcasing Türkiye’s regional flavours. Head Chefs Salih Serden and Akacan Agir are doing a modern take on Turkish food, with handmade mezze, fresh salads, and their contemporary versions of classic dishes like lamb tandir, featuring on the menu. Cocktails sound suitably modern too, with serves including the Mesopotamia (padron pepper-infused tequila, rosé wine, Campari and rosehip cordial) and the Galata (Yeni rakı, Tokaji sweet wine, lychee liqueur and elderflower). Opened May 20267-8 Market Place, London W1W 8AGlokalrestaurant.co.uk Oudh 1722 Aktar Islam is one of the biggest chefs in Britain – as well as being a regular on the telly, he holds two Michelin stars for his Birmingham restaurant Opheem, one of only two Indian restaurants in the UK (the other being Gymkhana) and four worldwide to hold the accolade. Now he’s come to the capital with Oudh 1722. Open across three floors in a listed Victorian building in Borough, Oudh 1722 showcases Islam’s interpretation of Awadhi cuisine. Originating in Lucknow, which has been listed a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, Awadhi cooking was shaped in the royal courts of northern India and is known for its kebabs, biryanis and curries made using the dum pukht method of slow-cooking over a low flame. The menu at Oudh 1722 includes dishes like Kakori kebab of finely minced lamb shoulder with chilli and rose; Lasooni jinga of king prawn with garlic and raw mango; Dahi paneer with cultured cream and fenugreek; Raan-e-dum pukht – smoked Wiltshire lamb shoulder baked in a lamb-fat crust; Zameen doz machli – whole turbot slow-cooked in spiced ghee with brown shrimp and saalan; Aylesbury duck with beetroot curry; Gobhi mussalam – roasted cauliflower in toasted poppy seed korma with seasonal truffle; and Awadhi nimish – aerated saffron soft serve enriched with almonds. Opened May 202666 Union St, London SE1 1TDoudh1722.com AVI Bistrot-Américain Taking up residence inside The Lowndes Hotel London in Belgravia, AVI Bistrot – Américain is promising “modern French spirit, elevated American classics”. That means familiar classics and comfort dishes, served with a bit of flair, and given the restaurant is inside a five-star hotel, in an elegant room too. Head Chef Joshua Conte’s all-day menu includes dishes like NYC fried chicken & caviar; AVI Caesar salad; black brioche lobster roll; Le Big Mac avec Truffle; red claw lobster linguine with caviar; spicy tomato tequila paccheri; tuna schnitzel with celeriac remoulade; and fillet steak with smoked bone marrow. Interestingly, there are a few more Middle Eastern and Asian influences on the menu then there are French; tartares come with lavosh crackers, there’s a seabass tom yum dish, and a ‘From the East’ section that includes a chicken dum biryani and a 24-karat gold leaf-adorned lahmacun, because you can’t be in Belgravia without any bling. Opened May 202621 Lowndes St, London SW1X 9ESavilondon.co.uk Arôme Chinatown Hot on the heels of ONSU opening, another Asian-inspired bakery has landed in town. Arôme already has two locations in London – one in Covent Garden, the other in Mayfair – and a third site has now opened in Chinatown, proving that you can never have too much of a good thing. Known for blending French techniques and Asian flavours, Arôme has built a loyal following for its pistachio chocolate escargots, honey butter toasts, almond croissants, gula melaka coconut twists and miso bacon escargots. As well as all the bestsellers, the Chinatown bakery also has soft serve, with flavours that change seasonally. Opened May 202692 Shaftesbury Avenue, London W1D 5EA@aromebakerylondon Tavern At the start of the year, Nest on Old Street announced that it was shutting up shop after nine years in business. It may be goodbye to Nest but the team (which also runs the Michelin-starred Restaurant St Barts) has hung onto the site and flipped it into British bistro Tavern. As it did at Nest, produce comes from top British farmers, fishermen and growers, with a focus on whole animal butchery and open fire cookery. Alongside daily seasonal specials, the menu includes dishes like devilled pig skin with smoked cod’s roe; Tavern sausage with curry sauce; barbecued cuttlefish and pork XO skewers; British bluefin tuna tostada with Irish wasabi; Brixham turbot with English sparkling wine and cobnut sauce; Yew Tree Farm hogget with anchovy and ewe’s curd; Tamworth pork served nose to tail with cider mustard sauce; Welsh Wagyu rib of beef with marrow and Dorset snails; and British chocolate tart with barley ice cream. Opened April 2026374-378 Old St, London EC1V 9LTtavernlondon.co.uk All Kaps After starting out as a pop-up at Papo’s Bagels when it was in Dalston – we spent many a weekend eating crispy slices in an alleyway next to The Shacklewell Arms – All Kaps Pizza has now found a permanent home of its own. And it’s still not far from Papo’s; Papo and Georgia moved their bagel shop to a spot in the arches by Hackney Downs, and the All Kaps crew has followed them, opening a slice shop just across the way on Dalston Lane. While the team gets up and running, the menu will feature a number of All Kaps hits before rotating specials kick in a few weeks down the line, with all slices coming in between £3 – £5. We’ll be making a beeline from the grandma slices, the Pepp (red sauce, mozzarella, provolone, parmigiano and spicy pepperoni) and the Goomba (garlic cream, mozzarella, provolone, mushrooms, nori sprinkle and teriyaki sauce). Another solid addition to the city’s pizza scene. Opened April 2026163 Dalston Ln, London E8 1LA@1900allkaps The Golden Tooth Matthew Scott and Charlie Carr have just about vacated the London Fields site that used to house their cult spot Papi but they’re already onto their next venture; a pub in Newington Green. The Golden Tooth, open on the former site of the Leconfield, sees the gastro pub concept get Papi-fied, red loos and all. The space is split in two – a pub serving more casual bar snacks and oysters shucked to order, and a 55-cover restaurant showcasing Matthew’s playful, produce-led and sustainable cooking. Expect snacks like currywurst with fried ox tongue and Bedfordshire clanger with Thai-style gooseberry jam in the front bar, with the dining room serving dishes such as veal sweatbread saltimbocca; Montgomery cheese puffs with sun gold tomato ketchup; steak tartate with lacto cep & mushroom crackers; turbot tranche with raw crème fraiche and grilled peas; Old Spot pork chop with quince; kid goat chop with ezme salad; Arctic roll with sour cherry; and jelly & ice cream. Charlie, who founded Wingnut Wines in Netil Market, is overseeing the wine and is highlighting micro producers, low-intervention bottles and homegrown English talent on the list. Opened April 202679 Green Lanes, London N16 9BU@goldentooth.pub IGNI We were big fans of HUMO, where everything was cooked over various types of wood, but the restaurant is no more, having closed towards the end of last month. The site isn’t lying empty for long though as Creative Restaurant Group has brought in ex-Cycene chef Theo Clench to open new concept IGNI, with a 34-cover dining room and a 10-seater chef’s table. As you might deduce from the name, cooking over fire and the use of smoke is still central (the kitchen still doesn't use electricity or gas), but this time there’s a focus on seafood, with produce coming from trusted suppliers like Henderson Seafood. Drawing inspo from his childhood memories of being by the water, Theo’s menu (available in set options only of eight, five and three courses) includes dishes like ember-cooked oyster with cucumber sauce, soft herb oil, fermented cucumber, nasturtium and bronze fennel; aged turbot on brioche with charred lettuce, smoked bone caramel and teriyaki turbot fins; aged tuna hutoro with foie gras, shiso and wasabi, and tartlet of akami with lapsang ponzu jelly; and smoked silken tofu with madong chocolate, roasted koji and wheat leaf tuiles. Opened April 202612 St. George Street, London, W1S 2FB@ignilondon_ Garden Bar Grill and Smokehouse by Cue Point London After a decade of pop-ups, festivals, residencies Mursal Saiq and Joshua Moroney have opened their first permanent site. Garden Bar Grill and Smokehouse by Cue Point London will be the brand’s flagship home, has landed just in time for Cue Point’s 10th birthday. If you’ve been following them for a while, you’ll know Cue Point has always done things its own way. Mursal and Josh built the concept around low-and-slow barbecue, Afghan flavours and a genuinely inclusive approach. That means halal, vegan and gluten-free options all built into the offering, rather than tacked on as an afterthought. The new site is the fullest expression of that yet. There’s a large-format American drum smoker in the pub’s 200-cover garden, with the menu mixing Texas-style BBQ, live-fire cooking, and Afghan spices, chutneys, pickles and sauces. Jon Spiteri is an original partner in The French House Dining Room, St JOHN and Sessions Arts Club: Melanie Arnold is co-founder of Rochelle Canteen: their sons Lorcan and Fin had been running Caravel and Studio Kitchen; and their daughter Molly is Business Development Lead at Koya. And now they’re combining that wealth of experience for neighbourhood pub The Latimer. Now we know that it’s been reimagined as MIKO Mei Fair and it’s taken up residence on the ground floor of Nair’s Chinese restaurant MiMi Mei Fair. That means more maximalist interiors, including timber panelling, red leather booths, gold leaf lotuses and tropical wall coverings. Soonthorn Apaipat, Head Chef of KOYN Thai, has made the move across Mayfair to cook up a menu that mixes new dishes and KOYN Thai favourites. Opened April 202655 Curzon St, London W1J 8PGmikomeifair.com Chintemani Named after the Çintemani motif (three stacked circles arranged in a triangle and parallel wavy lines) used in Ottoman art to represent power, luck and protection, Chintemani blends a respect for tradition with a modern approach to Mediterranean food. It’s come from the Bemse Group, which has a number of different brands, including a chocolate shop, an Italian restaurant, a NOLA-inspired concept and Turkish spots, across Turkiyë, and a Turkish restaurant in NYC. Though it’s billed as a Mediterranean restaurant, the menu leans heavily Turkish, with dishes including aged feta, watermelon and cantaloupe salad; olive, tomato and za’atar hummus; kale tabbouleh with caramelised goat’s cheese and Granny Smith apple; potato shakshuka with smoked garlic yogurt and black garlic aioli; tantuni on pide with isot aioli; tahini piyaz with homemade meatballs; entrecote döner bites with tomato sauce and garlic yoghurt dip; homemade spicy sucuk, kashkaval cheese and egg yolk sourdough pide; couscous prawns with paprika butter; and liquid nitrogen Turkish maraş ice cream with a peanut butter cookie. The 80-cover Kingly Street site is spread across two floors, with wood, formica and chrome on the ground floor, and more plush upholstery, polished teak, pink mirrors and a hidden private dining room downstairs. Padella faves like pici cacio e pepe and pappardelle with beef shin ragu are on the menu, alongside new dishes created with the best British produce. Opened April 20262 Kingly Street, London W1B 5PBpadella.co Burnt Arches Family-run spot Burnt has been slowly growing over the past few years and now Honor and Finlay Logan have opened site number three. Burnt Arches has come to Bethnal Green and functions as a space where the team can bake all their cakes, pastries and bread, including Burnt’s signature pistachio croissant, a rhubarb and apple chausson tossed in cinnamon sugar, and a savoury Welsh rarebit custard danish. After launching initially with baked goods, sandwiches and coffee, the new Burnt will then start a full lunch and brunch menu from 1st May, with a produce-led evening menu following that. Finlay will be doing more expressive cooking, with dishes like southern fried, crab-stuffed confit chicken wings with hot honey and roasted lemon; mac and cheese Scotch pie; and crab risotto with nduja butter and miso-cured egg yolk set to appear. Opened April 2026Poyser Street, London, E2burntrestaurant.co.uk Cafe Jikoni Jikoni founders Ravinder Bhogal and Nadeem Lalani Nanjuwany have opened Cafe Jikoni at the new V&A East in Stratford. The Marylebone restaurant that the two have been operating since 2016 bills itself as a ‘mixed heritage’ restaurant South Asian, Middle Eastern, East African and British influences. The 120-cover Cafe Jikoni builds on this, offering nourishing food that reflects the diversity of the area at accessible price points. As well as offering a coffee programme developed with Workshop Coffee, including Jikoni’s own ‘no-borders’ roasted blend, the menu includes the likes of turmeric & ginger chicken pie; mushroom and egg congee with chilli oil; classic Bombay sandwich with green chutney; triple greens and feta filo pie lamb, baharat, currant and pine nut sausage rolls; palak paneer flatbread with pickled onions; Vietnamese coffee brownie with coffee fudge icing; and banana cake with miso frosting. Opened April 2026V&A East Museum, 107 Carpenters Rd, London, E20 2AR.@cafejikoni Kumori Kumori, founded by Marc Flekei, started doing pop-ups last year, including at the Monaco Grand Prix, 1 Hotel Mayfair, and How Matcha in Marylebone. Now it's opened the doors to a permanent handroll bar in Soho, where the design, done by the same firm responsible for Kricket Shoreditch and Soma, has been inspired by Tokyo at sunset (kumori means “clouded light”). The kitchen is being headed up John Randy De Guzman (ex-Tobi Masa) with Alvin Contawe (ex-Dinings and Roka) joining as senior sushi chef. Handrolls are the main draw, made to order using bespoke extra-crispy nori, designed to keep maintain the structural integrity of the rolls. Varieties include unagi foie gras, spicy tuna with jalapeno miso, torched scallop, baked crab, and toro with torched bone marrow, with a selection of nigiri and small plates rounding out the menu. Opened April 202626 Denman Street, London W1D 7HX@kumorihandroll Side Piece After knocking it out of the park with Tempo, the Bethnal Green restaurant opened in partnership with chef Eric Wan, the Dan’s team is onto its next food concept, and it sounds like another winner. Side Piece, open in the smaller space that Dan’s has on Tottenham Road, is a relaxed Greek spot inspired by the cafe/bar/shop hybrids found on the islands, particularly Tinos, and Pelion and Volos on the mainland. The offering at Side Piece is simple and accessible, working both as a place you can drop by for a bite and a glass on the way home and a long weekend lunch. The wine is Greek and Greek-leaning (like a chilled red made in Australia by a second-generation Greek-Australian producer) and the food menu is changing weekly. Expect the likes of marinated olives; and fried sardines with smoked eel aioli; moussaka; beef stifado; spanakopita courgette flowers; Greek salad; and lemonopita. Great Portland Over the past 14 years, Sarit and Itamar have helped shape the Middle Eastern food scene in the city with their Honey & Co. restaurant group. This April, Honey & Co. Great Portland, a wine bar, deli and dining room, opened on the Honey & Smoke site. Running as a deli by day, it flips into a wine bar by night, and is somewhere you can pop in for a quick bite, a glass of wine, or a leisurely dinner. The new concept has been built around the wine programme, put together with Keeling Andrew, which features bottles from Greece, Palestine, Lebanon, Israel, Georgia, Italy, France and California. The food menu has been designed to allow grazing and sharing, with dishes including cheesy mizithra filo cigars with honey drizzle; anchovies on aubergine agrodolce crostini; tuna crudo with grated tomato and tahini; lamb arayes with a yogurt dip; fried artichoke with garlic, parsley and lemon; chicken liver skewers with parsley, cumin and garlic gremolata; whole charred prawns with preserved lemon and fermented chilli relish; crispy cauliflower rice with amba, flaked almonds and pickled chillies; and honey and feta cheesecake. Authentic halal Singaporean Malay comfort food is the name of the game at Padi, with dishes like beef rendang, satay, mee rebus, ayam lemak chilli padi, lontong, nasi padang and nasi ambeng. According to Singapore restaurant’s IG account, it does the best nasi ambeng – that’s a sharing platter of rice, beef rendang, sambal prawn, stir fried long bean with tofu, chicken in spicy coconut gravy, potato cutlet and more – in the city, so we’re intrigued to see if the London version can match up. Opened April 2026High Street Kensington, London@padilondon Mondo to Go Mondo Sando, responsible for some of our fave sarnies in town already has two outposts in South East London – a kitchen at the Grove House Tavern and its own Cafe Mondo in Camberwell – and this April, it’s added a third with Mondo to Go. Decked out in the same retro style as Cafe Mondo, complete with a small exhibit from the Museum of Stones, Mondo to Go in Deptford is, as the name suggests, takeaway only. But if you want to eat your sarnies on the spot, you only have to step outside and find a space on the sizeable 50-seater terrace. All the signature Mondo sarnies and sides, including the Mondo Frango, Mondo Combo, Everything Cutlet, pickles, and latkes, are on offer at Mondo to Go, with some exclusive Deptford-only creations also on the menu. You can wash all those down with pints, cherry lemonades, spiced apple sodas, grapefruit green tea slushies and more fun drinks.
